The adoption of a quality management system is a strategic decision for an organisation that can help to improve its overall performance and provide a sound basis for sustainable development initiatives. The potential benefits to an organisation implementing a quality management system based on the ISO 9001:2015 international standard are:
a) The ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements;
b) Facilitating opportunities to enhance customer satisfaction;
c) Addressing risks and opportunities associated with its context and objectives;
d) The ability to demonstrate conformity to specified quality management system requirements.
The first task when looking at how i can best support a new client is to understand what they have in-place already and what their own level of knowledge and understanding of ISO is, this is achieved through a gap analysis exercise. In a lot of cases it will be clear the client already has in-place a good percentage of the requirements which makes sense for any established business, so in those instances I can tailor my approach accordingly, addressing any gaps and ensuring the the ISO standard complements what they already have in place. If a company is either newly formed or operating with little or no system in-place then i work with the client on implementing a quality management system which works for them whilst meeting the requirements of this international standard.
In both cases I spend time embedding a process approach, which incorporates the Plan-Do-Check-A (PDCA) cycle and risk-based thinking. I also work on coaching the quality management principles of customer focus, leadership, engagement of people, process approach, improvement, evidence based decision making, & relationship management.

Internal auditing is a requirement of the ISO 9001:2015 Standard. ISO require organisations to conduct internal audits at planned intervals to provide information on whether the quality management system conforms to the organisations own requirements for its quality management system, the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 itself and is effectively implemented and maintained, requiring organisations to plan, establish, implement and maintain an audit programme(s) including the frequency, methods, responsibilities, planning requirements and reporting, which shall take into consideration the importance of the processes concerned, changes affecting the organisation, and the results of previous audits.
The challenge a lot of SMEs face is not having the internal competency, expertise, skill , independency, or qualified internal auditors to take this on let alone ensure it actually adds value to the business, while meeting the requirements.
I work with my clients to fully understand the level of support they require as I do not subscribe to the one size (template) fits all philosophy. From the review we will establish and tailor an approach which best suits the clients needs. This may involve reviewing and tweaking the current system, devising an implementing a new system and undertaking the internal audits fully on-behalf of the client if they either do not have the required resource or time or wish to spend their resources and time in other areas of the business or coaching internal employees to have the confidence and competence to undertake their own internal audits and manage the audit programme going forward.
I give my clients options rather than trying to tie them into a long-term agreement that means i am retained to run the programme, when they may wish to ultimately have their own team trained and able to take ownership in time.
